Homer Simpson and Me

The news is out on Reuters News Service. Trailers are showing up on youtube. As summer set in, Springfield Vermont won the right to host the premiere of the New Simpson's movie. This could have been my moment in the sun.

Being on the Simpsons means that you've arrived. Homer Simpson's corner of the universe is one of the classical popular culture barometers of our time. Anybody can be cast in stone, but it takes a real icon of our culture to be immortalized in cartoon. And after nineteen seasons in production, practically everything has been immortalized in cartoon: George Bush, The Moody Blues, Michael Jackson, Cheers, Jerry Springer, Dolly Parton, Michael Moore, Eric Idle, Ringo Starr, Mick Jagger, George Harrison, Tony Blair, Stephen Hawking...I could go on.

Some time ago, I was asked to do a voice over and play myself in the new Simpson's movie. It's already in my IMBd film credits. Since it was released early on that I would be in the movie, I have been getting many a media request for interviews.

I could go on but I won't. Alas, I am crushed. About a month ago, Fox called and informed me that "Homer had dumped me" and that I am now on the cutting room
floor.

Oh well. As I said before, it would have been my moment in the sun. Homer will have to save Springfield without me. It would have been fun but that's show biz.

That does bite though. Would have been a great scene I am sure. At least you have your memories..and maybe a deleted scene on the dvd release!

I don´t think the sun will ever stop shining on you Erin. Just saw the film about you with my father and fiancé. Although Julia Roberts is my favorite actress, it´s your great achievement that makes the film so great. As long as your remembered by some, the sunshines will find their way to you.

Hi Erin

Ok, no problem about Simpsons.
Never mind, they'll save you for a Erin-based episode!!

Your life is really inspiring!!

What about recording short video clips and posting in your blog?
It may be easier than writing (takes less time) so you can update more often.

We would love to watch you!

Peace!!!

I'm sorry that Homer dumped you...it's his loss!

The film about you is as spectacular as your actions have been..the message comes across loud and clear and never fades.

I loved the performances given by the actors and actresses in your film, but it is assuring to discover that you have a blog and a webiste that shows that you have gone from strength to strength.

On a smaller scale, I can identify with your Simpsons-related disappointment. I am one of 200 volunteers who appeared in the winning Springfield Vermont Simpsons contest video. We were all high as a kite the day we won the right to host the world premiere of The Simpsons Movie. But then our Chamber of Commerce turned against us. They decided they'd exclude us from the invitation list, giving our seats instead to the elite members of the community. And not even a word of thanks or mention of us in the public ceremony outside the theater!

It seems we were more appreciated on the internet so I created a website of our own. Experience the sights and sounds of the big movie premiere in the small town at:
