Remember Gardasil
Don't forget about Gardasil if I don't talk about it every week. They won't talk about it in Australia, either. Hundreds of Australian girls have experienced paralysis, dizzy spells and seizures and more. Australian records are not to my knowledge made public as they are in the US.
Gardasil is a vaccine that claims to be partially effective against some strains of HPV, some of which may cause cancer. Look at all of that equivocation: partially effective against some strains which might...
Weigh that against the ad campaign about wanting to be one woman less who has cancer.
There's a huge leap between partially effective against some...especially when there's some indication that taking the vaccine may be related to Acute Demyelinating Encephalomyelitis. Don't believe it? Look up "Brittany bell" and Gardasil.
How did MERC push its way thru the FDA approval process and get put on the market before it had completely complied with U.S. protocols and procedures? We know at least one reason why: they were in a rush to beat a competitive European product before it hits the US. Market.
Before you jump in with all four feet defending this vaccine as a cancer preventative, please remember that drug companies are NOT all about protecting our daughters. They are all about selling products. The vaccine has not been fully tested. No one has been studying it long enough to know what the LONG TERM consequences are. They don't even know how long the vaccine is effective or how frequently it will require boosters. How can anyone be talking about requiring ALL our young girls to be vaccinated with such an unknown quantity? What about the side effects? What are they?
Before my daughter ingests or is exposed to any chemical, I want to know it has been fully tested and is judged completely effective as well as completely safe.
After 5758 documented complaints of adverse reactions and up to 8 DEATHS, I believe a safety check is warranted. Individuals with Lyme disease, for example, had especially adverse reactions; and there are a lot of undiagnosed cases of Lyne disease out there.
And frankly, even if it is safe, it is NOT effective. *"Protective efficacy of this vaccine against different types of human papillomavirus was very low and the protection may be because of sub-clinical infection with human papillomavirus or antigenically related viruses." Pendru Raghunath, Senior Research Fellow.
And why is it not approved for use in males? Males get HPV, even if they do not get cervical cancer. Is it possible that marketing it to boys would remind people that the vaccine is not really a cancer preventative but a partially effective measure against a sexually transmitted disease?
The National Vaccine Information Center issued a press release that Gardasil MERCK'S GARDASIL VACCINE NOT PROVEN SAFE FOR LITTLE GIRLS National Vaccine Information Center Criticizes _FDA for Fast Tracking Licensure. The issues include flawed science, marketing strategy, and a need to show apparent results in a race for research grants.
Shades of Orwell and Doublespeak.
Are those the drug companies claim to be helping today actually tomorrow's victims?
Currently, I am the President of the consulting firm, Brockovich Research & Consulting, where I am involved in numerous major environmental cases

With all due respect, adverse events related to this vaccine are blown WAY out of proportion. For one- the current system allows people to report negative effects that occur after someone receives the vaccine- however, that IN NO WAY proves that the vaccine caused the negative effect. People always want to understand what is happening to them and often link things that are not related. Even though the number reported looks big- it is actually a smaller percentage of the total number of doses given than those reported for most widely accepted vaccines (per CDC). Keep in mind that decisions about vaccines can't be made on rare adverse events- those making the decisions have to think of how the majority of people will respond to the vaccine- which is by far, without problems.
I will not argue that the pharmaceutical agenda is shady....but that doesn't mean that valid scientists who recommend this vaccine are only in it for a buck - most make their decisions on the data, not the funding source.
P.S. The National Vaccine Information Center is not a trusted source for vaccine info...they have a biased agenda just like the drug companies..Let's stay objective.

I believe that our vaccines and drugs are not tested for a long enough period. They are just thrown upon the public so the drug companies can make a quick buck fast.

According to a JAMA article, Gardasil needs more research to ensure its safety and effectiveness. See http://jama.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/full/297/17/1921.
Claims that a safe and effective HPV vaccine will encourage sexual activity is ridiculous, especially given that risk of deadly STDs still exist. Claims that putting HPV vaccination on the market is urgent are overhyped, given that the vast majority of women defeat HPV without treatment, and cervical cancer can be almost certainly be successful treated if monitored with regular pap smears.
Besides the JAMA article, many scientists and doctors have condemned Merck's lobbying program to mandate teenage girls to take the vaccine. For example, Dr. Diane Harper of Dartmouth Medical School, who was involved in the creation of Gardasil, has criticized Merck for its efforts to get states to mandate its use on teenage girls without further research. She has mentioned that its long-term efficacy is questionable and that its use in conjunction with meningitis vaccines may cause Guilliane-Barre syndrome, a neurological disorder that causes paralysis. http://www.kpcnews.com/articles/2008/04/30/online_features/hpv_vaccine/hpv04.txt
My stake in this issue is not ideological. A friend of mine has a 14-year old daughter who had the gardasil shot. In the Fall of 2007, she was a track athlete. Today, she is hospitalized, needs a wheelchair for mobility, and may be a terminal case.
She has seen by some of the best doctors at Stanford, UCSF, and UPenn, but they have all been baffled. At this point, the best conjecture is that it was Gardasil. We are in a race against time to try to halt or reverse her deterioration. So I ask your help in her case.
Are you familiar with any other teenage girls who have been vaccinated with Gardasil and suffered serious neurologic complications (partial paralysis, numbness, seizures, involuntary trembling,...) Are you aware of any treatments that halted or reversed deterioration? If so, please tell us, so we can talk to our doctors
about it. My email address is mrprasad@berkeley.edu
Sincerely,

My 17 y.o. daughter had her second Gardasil shot the end of January 2008. Immediately, thereafter, she had six weeks of serious stomach issues. On March 30th, she began having seizures. She has undergone many tests, including CT scans, MRI’s, EEG’s and she is currently hospital at an epilepsy center. Doctors are labeling my daughter as "stressed" as there is no medical evidence to support that Gardasil causes seizures.
My daughter has missed more than six weeks of school and cannot return anytime soon.
If anyone has an similar situations, please contact me at Jodispeaks@aol.com.
We are desperate.

In August of 2007 my 15 year old daughter got her 2nd dose of Gardsil, In septemper she started having seizures. We took her to the hospital and they did all of these tests on her. All the tests had come back normal, The doctors can't find out what caused the seizures. My daughter has never had any health problems ever. My daughster is now 16, she is not allowed to drive until we get the seizures under control. It is May of 2008 and my daughter is still having seizures, she is on medication for them. My husband and I are convinced that the Gardasil shot has caused the seizures. I strongly recommend that no girls or women get this vaccine.

In the same spirit of this thread, there were 15,700 serious adverse events and 581 deaths reported in a 3 year period ,specifically atributed to a drug from Pfizer Co.-Depo Medrol. It's a steroid injectable solution but it's never been released by the FDA for intrathecal or epidural use, yet those events and deaths were from just that. Even though warnings are listed on the info sheets enclosed for the doctors that warn against intrathecal and epidural use of this drug, many pain doctors are still dooming their patients to lives filled with painful diseases like adhesive arachnoiditis, which has no cure and has me in a wheelchair and on my back most of the day due to severe burning pain from the chemical meningitis. The insert for Depo Medrol lists all of these things as adverse events and reasons not to use the stuff for spinal so why does Pfizer not educate the doctors after so much harm has come from this. Why not do a study? And how is it that the doctors, assuming they've read the info continue to push this treatment, which really amounts to experimental since it;s not meant for the spine, continur to make this standard practice? My new theory on this is that they do it to keep us in pain longer. Then they can charge us later for 2 implants on down the road at $40,000 a pop. Not to mention $1500 to $2000 weekly to refill my spinal pain pump, But my doc's trying to help me,,,he wouldn't be anything but honest with me, right?

Jenny is a 14 year-old girl who lives in Northern California.
Over the last year, she has gone from being a fully healthy 13 year-old to being nearly completely paralyzed. She retains movement only in her neck and mouth and faintly in her left hand.Doctors don't know for sure why Jenny got so sick but some think it may be connected to the Gardasil vaccinations she got (last one in March, 2007) and the weakening that seemed to start in spring and gradually built up. Visit http://www.jenjensfamily.blogspot.com/ for more info. We are fervently looking for comparables as jenny' scondition continues to decline.

I read that the vaccine has only been tested for 10 years, so HOW can they say it prevents anything?
Additionally, I believe that the "long-term-effects" are going to involve the cervix. As in the inability to carry a pregnancy to term. Which will lead to surgical measures to strengthen the cervix and more "health-care" interventions. And probably a couple more drugs.
And that's entertainment!

My daughter received two gardasil shots and shortly thereafter began having seizures. The first episode of seizing put her into respiratory failure and she was hospitalized for four months. She is now living with brain damage, memory impairment, behavioral problems, dramatic emotional mood swings, gait abnormality, ticks and twitches. She missed an entire year of school. She may be able to return if seizures are better controlled by meds which so far they are not. After four months of testing for metabolic disorders, genetic disorders, and numerous rare disease processes there is still no answer. I believe strongly gardasil is to blame, she was totally normal and healthy before this vaccine.
